County Employment and Wages

Fort Bend County, Texas, had the biggest over-the-year percentage increase in employment (7.4 percent) in December 2007; nationally, jobs grew 0.8 percent. Pulaski County, Ark., had the largest gain in average weekly wages (26.2 percent) in the fourth quarter of 2007, compared with a national increase of 4.2 percent. Full Text »

Mass Layoffs (Monthly)

In June, employers took 1,643 mass layoff actions, resulting in 165,697 unemployment insurance filings, seasonally adjusted. Layoff activity in manufacturing was the highest since August 2003. Average weekly initial claimants reached its highest June level since 2001. Full Text »

In June, 541 mass layoff events were reported in the manufacturing sector, seasonally adjusted, resulting in 76,514 initial claims for unemployment insurance. Each mass layoff event involved at least 50 persons from a single employer. Full Text »
