In the first quarter of 2012, 1,077 extended mass layoff events involved 182,101 worker separations; both measures were down from first quarter 2011.

CPI all items unchanged in April as decline in energy index offsets other increases
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers was unchanged in April after increasing 0.3 percent in March. The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2 percent in April, the same increase as in March.

All Pittsburgh-area counties posted lower unemployment rates from March 2011 to March 2012
Southeast:
Consumer prices in the South up 0.4% in April and 2.5% over the year
Midwest:
Chicago area prices rose 1.2% in March and were 2.1% higher over the year
Southwest:
